Forum Friends: Silly Question

I got and approved a new Forum Friend request today. Jeepers it's nice to be popular. But...

What does my "Friend List" do for me? I don't see any actions associated with it, such as "PM everyone on your Friends List". Is it just for my reference so I know who likes me somewhat?

It would be lovely if there was a button marked "Make All My Friends Send Me Fifty Dollars". Or a Ten-Dollar button. Moderator's choice.

Or maybe they will make a button send all your friends $50, $10 (or a free pizza) instead.....

I don't know what it does either. I just chalk it upon to one of those weird online social media things.

I got an e-mail from eBay the other day saying I had a new "follower" and I should be sure to update my "collections". I've been an eBay buyer for 10 years and a seller for 5 years, I had no idea what they were talking about.

I never reject a friend request. It seems harmless enough and of little consequence in the grand scheme of things. To do otherwise would be insulting, IMO. OTOH, I've never actually MADE a freind request. 'Seems kinda silly. I mean, we're ALL friends here ... aren't we?

People usually offer to pay me NOT to be their friend!! :0(

As Facebook often reminds me via email, "You've missed a lot! ....... You have ONE notice pending........."

Lasers are not JUST for sharks. Duct tape one on a cat's nose and he'll be entertained for HOURS. Don't ask how I know this.

Maybe the chicken coop needs a new power roof and anti predator laser parimeter.

:frown: I have made friend requests, and they chose not to be my friend. Still have some requests pending. I may have made miss-steps
in the forum, but everybody has an "Opps!" moment.

I always thought a friend request would allow (if granted) the requester to be alerted about every post you make. Could someone on the "requester" side confirm or deny?

The only beneficial function I am aware of when it comes to the friends list (aside of the perceived popularity) is that if you don't like to use the PM system or the Visitor Message system you can turn them off. However there is the option to leave them on only for contacts and moderators and so only someone in your contacts could PM you or leave a visitor message.

So you're saying "contact" is the same as "friend"? Why two terms for the same thing?

I did not write the vBulletin software so I cannot answer that question, however if you go to the following link you will see the section is labeled, "Friend & Contacts". Interestingly, the link is named Buddy List (Like AOL used).

Regardless, the only thing I can see having someone on your "buddy list" gets you is a + after their user name in the who's online list.

That is another feature I forgot about. If you're waiting for a friend to be online that's easy to see in the list of people online.

One more thing I forgot was blogs. You can set your blog so that only contacts may view or comment on your blog.

Crikey! All this time I thought Whit+ chose to add a plus sign for mysterious reasons!
