Welcome to the Crazy Creature Contest, starring your Crazy Creature. Your Crazy Creature will consist of a microcontroller driven Cucurbitaceae, aka squash or multiple squashes. Most people use a Pumpkin, I will be using this

If you want to join in the Crazy Creature revolution, post your crazy creature here and any build info before the big night! There are no rules, don't chop off your finger though, that would be bad.

    One week left...

Any Halloween uC decor, or post it in projects... Something. If this is what it is like on Halloween what is uCmass going to be like?

I have already started on my microcontrolled prank. Not sure if it will be scary but it will be really funny for me to observe. More on that later.

Nice xanadu! Here's mine from last year. Hope it still works, no time for repair!

Xanadu, "Gordy" is pretty spooktacular!!! Well done!!

You'll need a "reaction cam" on Halloween to show how the unsuspecting masses respond.

(Gourds are in the same family, Cucurbitaceae. so my name choice is valid - at first I was concerned he was misnamed)

Thanks guys, it was a lot of fun making it, and kind of a "reset" for me to tackle an easy project.

Erco, I know you can't disclose how to make flame throwers on the forum but if you have pic or something you can PM me I'm really interested to know how you do that.

I'm not going to be around for Halloween so I cannot get reactions to the squash. It also got moldy and had to be thrown out.

My prank is going to be conducted in the workplace where I wouldn't be able to record reactions either. I've decided my prank is going to be a "Mystery Knocker". I'll connect a push solenoid to a Propeller inside of a small project box mounted against the wall. The solenoid will make knocking sounds by striking the wall. Then I'm going to attach and ADC and microphone, so if you knock it knocks back. I'll also need a remote to set it off manually to get the fun started. I have to scope out a good hiding spot and I've waiting on the solenoid. Probably run it on a 3S lipo and leave it in place for a couple days.

Great project xanadu! I have a good friend, Jon, that is really into Christmas and Halloween electronic and light displays! He'd love this too. Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing.

Here is Jon's Halloween display from last year! He even broadcast the music on a small f.m. transmitter so those driving by can tune in!

xanadu: Those flamethrowers are just a servo pressing the spray nozzle of Tresemme hairspray. The pumpkin candles do the rest: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHKNzyjM228

Knock boxes are cool. I built this one using a BS1 about 3 years ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFLfb1kFPow

Yes! With all of the mold a few days later you can start producing mass amounts of penicillin.

Okay thanks, I guess that spray bottle is a lot easier to push down than the ones I have here.

I have seen this video before, I didn't notice it was you that made it hahaha. It probably popped up on my subscriptions page. I had never heard of it before until I saw that video so thanks!

Sure, I can dig up the info & code in a bit. Not much to it. Tiny program, so most of the BS1's tiny memory was for recording knock patterns. It had two modes: simple playback, and repeat rhythm:

    That's mint!

I am making it so that it knocks the same number back, with a random delay between knocks to add some effect. I'm trying to use two mics and to have it always listening and always playing back but that's too much. I don't want it to blow its cover, trying for barely noticeable until someone brings attention to it. Muhahaha,
