Prop Plug use

Hello,
I've got a DMX lighting unit from Ethereal FX which uses a Parallax Prop Plug to reprogram the firmware to offer different functionality. I got the Prop Plug, I downloaded and installed the USB drivers, but my unit does not show up as anything like a USB drive, and double-clicking the eeprom file (as instructed by the programming instructions from Ethereal FX) just prmopts Windows to try and find a program to open that type of file.

Is there some additional Parallax SW I need to load firmware files to a unit using the Prop Plug?

Thanks.

-Eric

It sounds like you need the Propeller Tool. I am not familiar enough with the DMX unit your using but if it needs a Prop Plug then I suspect the Propeller Tool is the right software. There are others too, but the Propeller Tool is the official IDE.

    Here's the page link: http://www.parallax.com/downloads/propeller-tool-software

    Welcome to the forums!

Could you link to the particular device you are trying to program? My VERY quick search could not find a Propeller driven device.

I went to http://etherealfx.com and looked at the DMX accessories, but I didn't see anything that referred to a Parallax Propeller. doggiedoc's suggestion about using the Prop Tool is probably all you need. I suspect JonnyMac may know something about the device you are using. You may want to PM him about it.

EDIT: I found a reference to a firmware upgrade for the EH16-DMX. It mentions that you need a Prop Plug and the Propeller software. The Prop Plug link works, but the Propeller software link is no longer valid. Use the link that doggiedoc posted.

Good point Jim. Since the Prop plug is basically just a USB-Serial adaptor - it's requirement may not necessarily indicate a Propeller based board. Doh!

Oh and I forgot to Welcome you Eric! Welcome to the Parallax Forums!!

I didn't dig down far enough to see it was Jon's EH16-DMX Module.

Thanks guys! Yeah, you found it. The EH16-DMX. I'll try the Propeller Tool and see what happens!
