BS2 File Problem

Over the years, I built many BS2 programs on my HP Pavilion laptop computer running XP. The generated files showed up in the computer directory with no problem.

However, when the HP hard drive crashed the BS editor was downloaded to a new Toshiba laptop computer running Windows 7.0

As I built and let the BS2 editor save the files...I find that the files do not show up in the computer directory. I want to copy these files every so often to a jump drive for backup but it appears that they are hidden.

In the editor, one can see the file structure under C:\ all the way down to the BS2 Editor. Opening the editor shows all the BS1, BS2 type internal device code files but there are no programs listed that I developed.

When the cursor is placed on the BS2 Editor file, the developed programs are shown in the access window below and any of them can be pulled up into the editor and worked on. They are saved back into the same location...where ever that is.

How can one get these generated files to show up in the computer directory?

It's been a while since I used XP, but try looking in C:\Documents and Settings\$user$\

(Replacing "$user$" with whatever name you log on as)

Or see where the editor picks when you use File/Save As...

Actually, I just booted up the old XP machine and all the Parallax stuff is saved in sub-folders of "My Documents". (which is of course, just a sub-folder in C:\Documents and Settings\$user$\ )

You could always use Windows 7 to find the files, have you searched for them?

Try opening Explorer, and select Computer. Then in the top right search box enter the name of one of your programs. It should show up on a list, select it and right click Open File Location. That should then show you all the files in that folder.

Oh wait, I didn't notice you'd switched to a Win 7 machine. I thought you were looking for old files on the XP computer.

On Win 7 look in your "My Documents", if it's not there look in C:\Users\"YourUserName"\AppData.

    Probably it's in C:\Users\"YourUserName"\AppData\Local\Parallax.

Windows XP and Windows 7 ways of putting things where they want s why I create my own folders on my Server( could be done on workstation also) and then point the Stamp Editor's Default File Location to that location.

Following RDL2004 suggestion, the files saved by parallax Stamp Editor are placed in the following file structure.

    C:\users\username\AppData\local\virtual store\program files(x86)\parallax inc\stamp editor

Opening the files cannot proceed past username. There is no AppData file there to open.

There is only one user on the machine.

Could there be a setting somewhere causing the problem?

This may or may not solve your problem, but I think it might.

Open up Windows Explorer. On the Menu Bar, click on "Tools" and select "Folder Options..."

Note that you may have to first enable viewing of the "Menu Bar". This is in "Organize".
Click "Organize", then "layout" and check the entry for "Menu Bar".

Okay, click "Tools" on the menu bar and select "Folder Options..." then select the "View" tab.
In the list box, look for an entry that says "Hidden files and folders".
Enable the option that says "Show hidden files, folders, and drives"

You should now be able to see your files that the idiots fine people at Microsoft were trying to keep secret from you.
