Radio Shack - Shame On You!

My alarm system has been down for quite some time, due to battery failures, and those batteries are really quite expensive.

I finally decided to bite the bullet and replace all the batteries, within all the sensors. While I was at it, I also decided to replace the batteries within the control panel. And to complete the job, so that I would not have to worry about it for quite some time, I decided to replace the battery within the wireless keypad. To my dismay, the keypad required the same battery as the sensors, which had already been ordered, shipped, and installed.

Like anyone else, I thought to myself, "I will just go pick one up at the local Radio Shack".

Upon entering the store, I immediately walked to the battery display, to locate the battery I required. When I found the battery that I needed, I then looked at the price.
$19+
Of course I immediately walked out, because it was outright robbery.

Online price for the same battery: $4.49

...yeah - some batteries are very expensive at RS. I bought 3 (oh, I don't know the size) batteries for my laser pointer and they were $6/ea! Eighteen dollars to power my laser pointer?!?!

I bought a different pointer that uses AAA batteries instead.

Fry's Electronics has reasonable prices on batteries especially coin cells.

Which I'm willing to guess is less than their store brand batteries.

I once bought portable shortwave receiver from Radio Shack and the manager filled it with the batteries it required for free. I think those are the only batteries I ever got from Radio Shack. At least the price was right.

Bruce, I hope you realize that by not buying those batteries from Radio Shack they will now go bankrupt. Don't believe me? You just wait and see!

    We'll have you to blame.

You probably could have bought a new laser pointer complete with batteries for less than that online.

Yes, I was that indignant about their $6 watch batteries which can be had for 3 cents elsewhere: http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php/141524-3-Cent-Button-Cells

LOL - My shoulders are not that broad. I will now have to go back and get that battery.

I don't buy batteries at RS anymore, unless it's something so esoteric that no one else carries it. Their price on CR2032 lithium coin cells is ridiculous. Two doors down, at O'Reilly AutoParts, the same batteries were less than half the RS price. But then the local hardware store had a twelve-pack of the same batteries for what RS was charging for one. Go figure.
