What does this have to do with Parallax, electronics, programming, micro-controllers, space, or technology in general? Please enlighten me. Radio Shack is only mentioned vaguely in post #101.

The General Discussion forum is for "Primarily for questions regarding any Parallax product or general programming needs, and also friendly chatter."

    So it fits.

Radio Shack and Sears are two long time American companies suffering many of the same problems.

Both are excellent case histories of how not to do business in this century and so should be studied closely.

    Next question?

Typically, in the Parallax Forums, it would be desirable to balance one's links to irrelevant articles with actual contributions to the Parallax art, or questions pertaining thereto. A diet exclusively rich in the former from any forumista is often met with derision from some quarters. Balance is essential to promoting harmony in these quarters. IOW, Too_Many_Tools, if you contribute more Parallax-related material, you might be met with less criticism. 'Just a friendly heads-up.

I agree. My most recent contribution is no different than others that are posted by fellow members. FWIW...Sears has been a ready source for tools and materials that I use in building robots...just like Radio Shack has been over the decades.

FWIW...I too do not delight in seeing yet another American company coming to its end but not to study the causes and learn from it is folly.

There are lessons for a company like Parallax to learn from companies like Radio Shack and Sears...just like there are lessons from sucessful companies like Apple and Facebook.

Another point...really like your quote from Ali...very true.

OTOH, this is just another non-authoritive user forum you linked to, of which there are thousands. I think such topics have higher merit when the linked resources are from tangible news or business sites.

I personally don't think there's much comparison between Sears (or the other doomed retailer K-Mart) and Radio Shack. For one thing, Sears Holdings was run into the ground by a micromanaging zealot with nearly no retail experience. At least the CEO of RS comes from a retailing background. Sears has real estate; RS doesn't. Sears has its own built-in re-capitalization system; RS doesn't. Other than both being bricks-and-mortar stores competing against Amazon what's there to compare?
