Anyone from Parallax or the the forum going to be at Maker Faire in NYC this weekend? I'll be there on Saturday (9/20). I hope to see some Propellers in action at the Faire. Will be my second time attending this event and looking forward to it.

I made it the last three years, but I can't make it this year. As far as I know, Parallax will not have a booth. They didn't for the past two years.

    Hi Little-endian,

Sadly, we are not sending any Parallaxians to Maker Faire 2014 NYC this weekend. But you will still have a great time and return with many creative new ideas.

Have to admit, that having lived in Asia the past 19 years and last visited the USA in 2002, my views are likely out of touch with what Make/Maker currently are in the US.

Gordon makes some valid points. Nonetheless, even the 0.1 percent of ATMEL marketshare may be a big boost in consumers mind to accept Atmel SOC chips over Intel or AMD devices. So popularizing the AVR devices may have a knock on affect. (or maybe my isolation just makes me mental.)

    Loopy,
...even the 0.1 percent of ATMEL marketshare may be a big boost in consumers mind to accept Atmel SOC chips over Intel or AMD devices.

This makes no sense. The consumer cannot choose Intel or AMD chips for the types of applications they can make with Atmel, PIC etc. Intel and AMD do not make such devices.

Intel has only very recently woken up to the demand for such things and latched on to the Maker thing by introducing their tiny Edisson module:

Which is programmable with the Arduino IDE !

I capitulate. I won't defend the sense of what I have said. I was trying to back out of debate, trying to admit I was out of touch, but that in the world of Brand indentity, even a small revenue item's participation might be used to extend interest in other brand products.

But I just seem to be drawing the thread off into more distraction. The moderator has asked that I (and I presume all) address just the OP concerns. So I guess I back slid and deserve this.

Are you in the right thread?

There is no post by Gordon here. There is no moderator post here.

There is a post by a Gordon on the other thread with a post by a moderator:

Perhaps the threads should be merged.

I am in the wrong thread.. these two have very similar topic and very similar title... thus my confusion.

Due to this error -- Apologies to all. I doubt if any of what I posted makes any sense..

I'll actually be at exhibiting at the Faire tomorrow (Sunday). I'm exhibiting some of my multirotor creations (including the ELEV-8 v2, and a custom-built hexacopter) and other projects (including a pumpkin throwing trebuchet) with #BucknellMakers (Bucknell University). I'll be at the booth on-and-off throughout the day. Note that my exhibiting has NO official ties to or relationship with Parallax Inc. Hope to maybe see some of you there!
