I can't argue with that logic. Unless you want to build it into a project. Ain't dat Prop Activity board 'bout fitty simoleons? Rather spend ~7 myself...
Which reminds me, I just had my first Ten Fidy ale: 10.5% and killer taste! http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/2681/34483 This will give Bavarian EKU Kulminator/28 a run for its money. http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/412/1230/
Why do robots and beer go so well together?
But you can't just spend $7. You also want a controller because otherwise you just have a cheap audio player you can buy at the swap meet, and where's the fun in that. If the MCU is something like a PICAXE you will probably want several of them because it's a slow 8-bit, single-core chip (as useful as it is). Your robot/whatever probably has other things it needs to do beyond just playing a song.
You want to load in big high-bitrate STEREO audio files, and what's easier than a microSD card, which you can also plug into your PC. That means a microSD card reader in your project. Pretty soon you're spending $20-30 or even more, and an afternoon (or more) wiring stuff up, PLUS developing all the co-processor code because you need to make your own version of parallel processing. While you're still soldering, my project is already done. Being enjoyed by all.
See, the way I figure it I've already lived about 2/3 my expected life span. Of the time remaining, I'll sleep 1/3, another 1/3 in daily chores, and the final 1/3 working, or enjoying a hobby. All of a sudden quick-to-finish projects look pretty good! Fiddy bucks is like the perfect 401K plan.
You're getting quite good at painting me into corners with your snappy retorts, Gordon!
Anywho, don't me me dissuade you from playing around with these boards. I happen to love sound boards, and this one looks cool. Just wanted to point out there are quicker ways to develop something along these lines, and it just so happens to be a product you can get from a little town in the north Sacramento delta, rather than all the way from China.
