Need 3rd party Propeller Board

Hey guys,

I'm in need of about 8 boards equivalent to the Parallax Proto Board or Parallax Project Board. Unfortunately, there are only 3 remaining of the former and the latter is discontinued. So I'm going third party with this request and would like recommendations from you guys for an alternative.Needs to have the full working Prop circuit, power supply circuitry and some prototyping space. I'll need the board fully assembled for around $20. I know a lot of you actually make and sell your own boards so if you offer them for sale I'll be glad to take a look.

Thanks,
Marcus

The project board is discontinued? I thought it was just temporarily out of stock awaiting a revision.

My apologies, the previous version of the project board is no longer available until it's revision is released next year.

    Thanks,
    Marcus

Now you have me worried... Speaking of being discontinued....
Unfortunately, there are only 3 remaining of the former

That is uncommon. I surely hope they are not discontinuing the ProtoBoard.

Wasn't the Project Board supposed to replace the ProtoBoard? Maybe if the Project Board is coming back into stock there is no need to replenish the supplies of the ProtoBoard?

I certainly hope you are wrong about that, because they are both equally important for prototyping.

Regardless of what's happening to either of these Parallax boards, does anyone have any suggestions of similar products that are available today?

    Thanks,
    Marcus

The price you want is impossible. ($20ea for 8 assembled & tested propeller project board equivalent)

At $24.95 the Parallax USB Project board is essentially subsidized by Parallax. No third party can afford to get anywhere close to that price, look up low quantity pricing just for the chips (prop, eeprom, ftdi), cost of assembly etc.

Your best bet is using a QuickStart with a prototyping board.

    Another Propeller board purveyor here.

Afraid I'm will Bill on this one.. We are at least twice your requested price to create a board "kit".

Given the time and effort that goes into a project, we price them at level in hopes of having our time repaid in quanitity over time.

Marcus, I would suggest you call Parallax first and see what they can do for you. If Parallax can't help you then you can often find their products at distributors such as Digi-Key or Mouser, or companies such as Solarbotics that sell microcontroller products.

Do an internet search for "Parallax P/N Description" and many of these companies will show up.

No, he wanted on-board USB programming. Add a PropPlug, and this would work... and cost more than a QuickStart.

At $35 the QuickStart is still a decent deal, even Parallax - who makes the propeller - could not sustain the original $25 price (which I suspect would at most have broken even)

It doesn't come with a crystal or EEPROM.

I see lots of QuickStart board on ebay. They seem to average $15 each (or less).

    That is a GREAT deal!

It must be people re-selling QuickStarts liquidated by RadioShack stores closing down.

Ditto. I've seen same. Don't know how long it will last, however.

    Marcus,

I have 3 unused/unopened #32810 Propeller Project Boards that I have no plans for. I also have 2 Proto board USBs and 2 Proto board (non-USB).

I'll put a notice in the classified so I don't break any forum rules.

I sell my CpuBlade for $17.50 + shipping. It' only a 1"sq pcb with prop, xtal, 3v3 reg, transistor reset circuity. No USB.
I do this for the fun of it. If I was to do this commercially I couldn't sell these for this price.

If you can do a DIP board and add your own proto board and get an FTDI programmer or Prop Plug, then my eeZee Propeller board is $24.95 on Tindie.

It's a DIP board with all pins exposed and FTDI / Prop Plug programming headers, plus many other features. It will be re-stocked as early as next week once I order and receive Propeller chips and populate the remaining boards.

The Schmartboard mentioned above is a good deal; I started with one and I like it. I just prefered a breadboard friendly form factor.

    Ok, I'm back.

Whew, luckily I got approval on a project that is going to need 8 boards just in time. I got the last 4 from Mouser and the last 4 from Digi-Key. Sorry world. Thanks everyone for your responses. I will consider these other good options on my next project if I need something before the next Project board is out.

    Thanks!
