Different Silkscreen

I received a couple QFP Props from Digi-Key and I noticed that the silkscreen on the top of the chip is different than the last time I ordered them. Anyone noticed that?

The one on the left is the older one, from last winter.

The one on the right has the newer logo with the dropped L. Does this make the one on the left a collector's item? ;)

I recently received a Propeller Activity Board and noticed it had different markings than the other other Propeller chips I have. I had kind of wondered if it was a special marking for the Activity Board chips but your post makes me think the change was made on all the chips.

I like the new "Parallax" text portion of the logo (I notice the logo at the top of this page is still the old one) but I think I like the larger beanie hat better than the small beanie hat.

Both logos have the dropped L. In the newer logo, the A and R are separated; they were conjoined in the old version:

    Old: vbulletin4_logo.png

    New: parallaxlogo.png

Why Parallax would embark on the enormous -- and expensive -- task of changing their logo everywhere for such an insignificant change is beyond me, though.

I have no idea how much something like this costs but I don't think the change is "insignificant". IMO, the new logo is much easier to read particularly if you don't already know what it says.

IMO, (and for some reason Parallax never asks what my opinion is before making a change) the new logo is a big improvement.

    Hey Fred,

The one on the right is an unmarked P8X32A-Q44-U (https://www.parallax.com/product/p8x32a-q44-u) which we put in our laser to turn into a "marked" chip. We had a tremendous inventory of unmarked Propeller 1 chips which we needed to draw down.

In the future, if customers need unmarked Propeller 1 chips they will only be available with a 12-week lead time and Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ) in the 10K+ range.

I suppose that the lettering could be removed with an abrasive, for small quantities.

This thread had me looking at all my propeller boards, 1 Activity Board, 3 Project Board USB, and 1 Quickstart. all but one of the boards has the propeller chip with the Parallax and Beanie hat logo, and one of the project boards the propeller chip just has two numbers on it:

    1109
    C15177.1

It looks like it might be one of the "tremendous inventory of unmarked Propeller 1 chips ". I can barely make out those numbers on the right chip pictured in post #1.
That board is the first version of the Project Board USB.

That's because we also built some products with the unmarked Propellers, but mostly S2s, PropScopes and other hardware where the Propeller is buried behind a case.

The two numbers you see are date code and lot number.

BTW, they are laser etched nowadays. Silkscreen is so 90', (maybe 80's) ? :)

Your site shows ~7k unmarked chips in stock. Is that current or did you mark all of those?

I'm betting that the count is accurate. Parallax's online inventory count gets updated almost instantly, in my experience, even if an order is placed at midnight when no one is there.

Yep, reflects quantity available. The value on the web site is 99.97% accurate and updated every 15 minutes.
