At one time the US had the lowest Business tax in the world. Now it is the highest. Couple that with greed and you get each state/local municipality tax laws. I agree with Ken, the loops needed to jump through seem endless and once you think you have it figured out they throw something else at you. I am self employed and for this I am taxed an additional $5,500.00 per year just for that. Now they want to throw a tax at Internet sales so you will need to file taxes in EVERY state you do Business in. That means abiding by the laws of each state so you may end up filing taxes every month. While Amazon and the likes can afford accountants and tax lawyers to keep up with this, the vast majority of businesses can not. Sorry, I am not trying to politicize this thread, but Heater asked!!!!
I don't know. But it seems there is a reason why IBM, Google, Facebook, Microsoft, and the like have their HQ's in Dublin Ireland.
And it might be a hint at why everything is made in China today.
Whilst we are at it, how come the USA has any tax at all, never mind the highest? I thought the whole idea there was "every man for himself" and minimal government intervention?

Perhaps it's better no one answer this.
So in other words you want to take a cheap political shot and act like you're above the fray, nice...

No, not at all.
None of us are "above the fray". Or at least nobody that I know. We all pay our taxes and live within the confines of the society we are in, and get along as best we can.
I take no sides. The good old communist command economy did not work out so well. I'm not sure that the capitalist command economy is much better.
Like I said "Perhaps it's better no one answer this."
It's sad that us guys on technical forums can never discus these kind of things.
The problem is that you make a statement like "I thought the whole idea there was "every man for himself" and minimal government intervention?" and then suggest it not be commented on.
So you've made your political statement which is an oversimplification and typical slam against conservatives and then try to look like a good little forumista by suggesting it not be discussed further.
Agreed, we're heading down the wrong road again. I have already wished Jessica the best of luck and thanked her for all that I learned from her while she was here. Her energy and positive attitude were very motivating and she brought a fresh look to the table. She will be missed.
The problem is that I made an observation of American society, as an outsider, which may or may not be correct as you see it. But now I am trashed as a "good little forumista" who is making a "slam against conservatives".
There must be a better way to discuss such things.
What I do know is that these debates go down hill fast. With everybody taking some fictitious partisan sides and ignoring reality.
Can I say it again, it is sad that we cannot discuss politics, as in how to organize the human population, without degenerating into a slanging match between one ideology and another.

There have been enough reminders so far; this thread is at risk of being locked.
