ELEV - 8 to use for research

I would like to use the Quadcopter, ELEV - 8 for research on crops. (State research) I forsee that I will need a camera on board, with capability of
recording the video. I do not expect spectral analysis at first, but other specialized instrumentation will undoubtly be needed in the future. I know I have a limit of
2 lbs, correct? I will have to cover approx 1500 acres. The quadcopter is for specific testing areas. while the generic acreage would be surveyed by a large model
plane. (If the plane locates a problem area, the quadcopter is dispatched to the problem area for further analysis.) Do you think I am on the right track?

Yes, but the Hoverfly OPEN won't really do the job since it has no GPS sensor or software to support it. However, you could use the ELEV-8 V2 with their Pro board (supports GPS waypoints) or one of the many other flight controllers on the Parallax airframe.

Crop surveying is a common use of UAVs, too.
