Air Hogs IR Remote for Smartphones: Hack for your Robot???

I was at Wallymart yesterday and saw that they had about 20 of these Air Hogs Link units on clearance for $1. It plugs into your phone's headphone jack and an app uses it to transmit IR to an Air Hogs RC helicopter. Should be easy to hack the IR formatting to make use of the App for a robot?
