I've been thinking of buying a Pickit 3 so I did a little price shopping and found this on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Microchip-Development-Debugger-Programmer-Pickit/dp/B00CQKB9QQ/ref=sr_1_18?ie=UTF8&qid=1408100419&sr=8-18&keywords=pickit3. Why buy it retail at $45 when you can use your retirement funds or the money for your new house for one for only $90,000 and it is used as well!

It never ceases to amaze me when people try to post an item at an outrageous price. Do they think we are so gullible to go for it when you can find it for a reasonable on the same site.

Erco, I do realize there is a $20 clone of the Pickit 3 and you probably can find it even cheaper. I just have some Amazon gift cards to use or I can start saving my pennies for that $90,000 bargain!

I've built one for myself. Total costs around $3 ? 18F2550 was free sample from microchip, LT1308 was free sample from Linear, coils, diodes, etc, also were free samples from various supplier. I've paid money only for PCB and soldering supplies :)

Assume that nobody would value that at $90,000. So, what other reasons might they have for listing that price?
    - Maybe Amazon requires a certain number of products for a seller
    - Maybe the seller needs to pad their accounting books a bit
    - Maybe the seller is laundering money

In any case, I don't think they expect anybody to buy one of those items for $90,000.

In order to use Amazon for product delivery, the item has to be listed for sale through Amazon.

Pixy (aka CMUcam5) faced this problem when they used Amazon for delivery. To make sure no one cut in line and ordered though Amazon, they listed the price as several thousand dollars.

There's probably some technical reason why the product needs to be listed on Amazon (maybe to stay listed as a seller and not have to file new paper work?), I don't think they intend to sell any of these devices at this price.

I have a rare vintage MicroChip PicStic kit with versions 1, 2 and 3, plus the programmer. You're a stand-up guy, blittled, and I want to help. I could let you have it for a cool $50K.
