Hi,

I'm looking for a heat detection sensor that can detect when people are approximating my device, but the kicker is, the device will be made to be outside sometimes in extreme heat conditions (nothing over 100F though). Does Parrallax make something that can be used outdoors?

The X-Band Motion Detector (#32213 http://www.parallax.com/catalog/sensors/detectionproximity) would be best for that. A PIR (Passive Infra Red) would not work at 100F.

Look for something that has very high tolerance for heat and thermal conductivity. Remember, outside in direct sunlight fluctuates the device in use. Use high quality steel and/or plastic parts. Also, people must be differentiated from the sun or others heat sources. Humans are heat sources. The sun gives off UVA, UVB, UV light. I think humans are in the infrared heat range.
