can't find PMB248gps or LISY300gyroscope modules

Working my way through Programming and Customizing the Multicore Propeller Microcontroller Book. I'm on chapter 4 which has examples using these two modules. Can I substitute PMB-688 SIRF module, and L3G4200D. I'm a beginner and hope to learn as much as I can from this book. I found some references in the forum to Omnitron's ParallexDirect.com but they don't have either. Not on Amazon or ebay. Will I be able to do the viewport exercises with the new modules and anything in subsequent chapters like dancebot?
thanks Patrick

The gps units are similar although the 688 supports more than just the NMEA0183 protocol. There may be some differences in the connections as well, but it should work, although it may not jibe with the Programming and Customizing the Multicore Propeller Microcontroller Book instructions.

Not sure about the LISY300/4200gyroscope since I cannot locate the data sheet for the LISY300. Probably are compatible.

thanks for your info kwinn. I think my best bet is to move on to other material that uses what's out there now. Parallax has a kit with book on xbee ( the next chapter in the programming and customizing the multicore propeller), and one on Ethernet the final chapter. The also have some robot books and kits, which I don't think I' ready for quite yet. These should cover gps and gyro, etc when Iget to them.

Moving on to material that uses current hardware is a good idea. A lot of what you miss using the gps and gyro material (serial data protocols, hardware, and parsing data etc.) would be covered in other topics. No point getting hung up part way through.

I think Chapter 5 was the most fun to work through, Just use whatever compass and accelerometer you can find.
And you can find code in the OBEX to run just about anything Parallax sells. It isn't to difficult to integrate into the Chapter 5 stuff.

You don't want to miss out on making a robot move with a Tilt controller, and Mapping out an area with a PING(((. :thumb::thumb:

Someone's hoarding, but for once it's not me.

I've got everything except the hm55b. Can't seem to locate one. Not sure about three axis module. The number of pins are different. Often you learn more by adapting something to do a different task, but there is a frustration factor. I'm going to get a three axis module and see what I can do. The book on xbee is no longer available but can be downloaded which I did. It turns out that one section is chapter 5 of the Programming and customizing book.
    thanks for the help
