Propeller DNA-RTC users, please read.

Winbond has discontinued the PDIP version of the W25Q80 8-Mbit quad SPI Flash chip that is normally included with the Propeller DNA-RTC. Since I can't find a pin compatible replacement It's no longer included with the board.

I think the SOIC part is still available, and there are inexpensive soic-dip adapters.

This affects me as well, I use that chip on quite a few of my boards. I am looking for replacements, and will let you know if I find one.

It looks like the W25Q16CVDAIG, W25Q32BVDAIG and W25Q64CVDAIG are still available in PDIP 8, and I believe they are backward compatible with the W25X80, and add QSPI.

Make that they are supposed to be available. Could not find stock with a quick check.

Avnet at least lists the W25Q32BVDAIG

I've had SOIC to DIP and TSSOP to DIP adapter designs for a while, but never sent it out to FAB.

Your's for the taking free. No claims or other strings attached ....

Making adapters for the SOIC would work if it were for my own projects. But as a business I can't make the numbers add up. In order to make it worth the effort I would have to charge about $3 each for finished modules and sell them separately or hike the price of the DNA-RTC. And that's for 100 modules which far exceeds the demand for the DNA-RTC.

The real cost though is in the pins http://www.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&itemSeq=154347796&uq=635420690667689355 (The cheap square pin headers are too thick and won't fit in DIP sockets.)

Any chance of a "last buy" from DigiKey or some place like that or are they already all gone?
