I pillaged the local radio shacks

Hello all,

As most of you know my dad had a stroke last weekend. He is doing good, but it is going to be a long, hard road for me and my wife.

We went to breakfast at my dad's favorite place to eat. Next door to the restaurant is a radio shack. I go in just to look around, and to get my mind off things for a little. While looking around, I found 2 quickstart boards. Knowing others have said they are on clearance, I took one of the boards to the counter to do a price check. Sure enough, they were $7.49 each. I grabbed the other one, and bought them. Then I asked the associate to see if other stores had them in stock. And 2 stores within 10 miles from me had them. I went to the other 2 stores and bought what they had in stock.

So now I can say "I am a proud owner of 6 QuickStart boards"

Sorry to hear about your dad. Here's hoping for a speedy recovery. I had to get my QS boards from EBay. $22.00 for 2 of them was not bad considering none of the Shacks in my area had them. I did get the Shack's version of Polymorph for a killer price!!!

I hope your father will recover completely.

My local store had 2 boards on the pegboard @ $43.99. Asked for the price check and they came up as $7.47. Bought 'em both.

One board had a thick antistatic foam insert and one didn't. The one that didn't also didn't have the led demo program in eeprom. Neither had been previously opened. Curious.

These have been on sale for a while but be aware that these are all Revision A. You will find Revision B at Parallax and most other retailers.

If I recall there is a newer FTDI chip and some small board additions such as SMT pads on the bottom.

Thank you everyone for the concern. My dad is doing good. We moved him from Florida, up to Ohio so he can live with me and my wife. The damage only affected his speech, and some very minor motor skills. Both of those can be helped with therapy.

I am glad to see others taking advantage of RS closeout price.

PS. Now that things have settled down a little, I can get back to my reflow oven.

I wish your dad a speedy recovery.

Thanks for the heads-up on this. I pillaged two RadioShack's in my area yesterday and was able to score a handful of QuickStart boards.
