Question About Using Polymorph

Just curious as to how others use Polymorph. I have 2 boxes of the RS stuff that was on sale and 4 powder colors that I ordered from England. Do you use molds to create squares, circles, etc. or just wing it. I thought about a roller but not sure if it will stick or not. I want to keep my pieces neat and the thickness consistent.

PS: Art was never my best subject. No matter how hard I tried everything turned to Smile!!!!

I think you'll have a hard time getting precise shapes. I find it useful for things that don't have to be too accurate, such as catapult buckets...

I usually just wing it and shape it by hand.

The four servo gimbal contraption was made by hand shaping the Polymorph. It doubles as a scarecrow.

I used a mold to make some landing gear for my hexacopter. You can see the mold at 4:08 in the video on this page. What was really useful was embedding nuts into the Polymorph to make it easy to attach the landing gear.

I use a heat gun (normally used to for heat shrink airplane covering) to heat the Polymorph and I use canned air (upside down) to cool the Polymorph if I'm in a hurry. I'm not sure, but I think cooling the Polymorph quickly with the canned air reduces the strength of the Polymorph.

Polymorph will merge with some types of plastic. The little blue servo cases will merge with Polymorph which is why I added some foil tape to the servos in my gimbal contraption.

Don't store Polymorph as big blocks or other thick shapes. If the Polymorph is in a big block, it will take a very long time for it to melt again. I try to leave Polymorph in a ribbon or thin rod when I have extra.
