Xbee S1 / Xbee USB adapter / Coolterm programming issue

I have used this USB adapter to program my Xbee S1 units before using Coolterm. I have recently upgraded to Mavericks and wonder if that is the source of my issue, but now when I connect to the Xbee using Coolterm and type +++, nothing happens. Does anyone have insights that could help solve this problem? I see the LED's on the Xbee light up and the device appears in the serial list in Coolterm ("usbserial-A800HEQX"), and when I click "Connect" in coolterm the status bar at the bottom of the window says "Connected." But +++ does nothing. Thanks.

I also see a solid yellow LED on the Xbee USB adapter but no other LED's are on.

I also noticed that if I plug my Parallax Xbee Adapter Board into power and ground without an Xbee module attached, the blue and red lights light up. But when I plug the Parallax Xbee USB Adapter Board into power and ground without an Xbee module, only the solid yellow led lights up.

The Yellow LED is power and should come on whenever the board has power. Are you saying with the XBee Module plugged in the Yellow LED does not come on, but the Red and Blue ones do? Actually, I just realized you said without in both cases.
