How long do you wait for the raspberry Pi to work ?

Hi, I just formatted a 4gig sd card and then downloaded NOOBS http://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/ unzipped it and copied onto the sd card. Connected everything then finally powered it up, my monitor just sat there blank for 5 minutes. Ive followed the instructions to the letter. Could the problem be that I have to wait longer for the Pi to do whatever heavy lifting it might be doing ?

Therre is another option where you download a disk image, but can that be copied to an SD card ??

    Whiteox.

You should see video almost immediately. I did and have Noobs on several Pi's. You can use the other distro for Raspbian in the downloads of their site but it is harder. Did you use SDformater to format the drive? Links for that is also on www.raspberrypi.org on the download page.

Do any of the lights flash? Did you format the card using the recommended formatting software? With other software you can burn an iso to an sd card, google it.

    Hello!
I have a device here, and while I use the native one, the NOOBS one was designed to present the user with a screen describing each. And then if necessary reach out to the Internet and then also if necessary download everything and thence decompress it. So then screen you showed us is what is supposed to be there.

Ideally there are indeed instructions on the site for even starting to use the NOOBS method.

Now the big problem is that the processor behind the Raspberry Pi is not as fast as say your desktop, but it does do things well. Now I strongly suggest that you use the native one, instead, and follow the screen instructions for both formatting the card if necessary, and thence writing the image to the card.

i watched that great little vid on how-to. i had done all that but i think the problem was the files are slightly different. the ones i posted are not exactly the same, ive repeated the extract zip and now the files i have are the same as those shown in the vid. i wont dwell on how i managed to get the different results.

Are you using the RCA monitor plug? If so, you need to repeatedly press the number 4 ( I believe) to get the picture on an RCA monitor. Once it comes up you do not have to do that any longer.
If you are using HDMI, I would go through and follow the Noobs directions EXACTLY.
