Quadrature Encoder Easy Installation Tip

Hi all-

This is just a quick tip on how to install the Quad Encoders (#29321) onto either the #28962 (aluminum) or #28963 (plastic) motor wheel kits because it's not as clear as it could be in the Product Documentation.

One side of Arlo's drive system is easy to install the encoder onto the motor mount block because the encoder wires go away from the standoff (one of the three that's holding the motor to the block)...

However, the other encoder has its wires "going right toward" the standoff, and they seem to interfere to the point where you can't seem to plug the wires in without bending the connectors.

The simple answer is that you should plug the wires into the encoder board first and then bend the wires at a 90 degree angle straight as shown here:..

Route the wires under the standoff so that they will not be pinched when the assembly is attached to Arlo's Main Plate.

Then you can place the encoder into position and fasten it with the two screws easily as shown here...

That's all there is to it :thumb:

Great info to add! Struggled with this a bit when building my Arlo. Too bad the encoder does not have a mirrored set of connections on the other side so they could be used as a left or right and have the wires avoid that support on both. Could not use the included servo wires because they were too short by the time I made the loop back around.
