A group of scientists created an artificial intelligence that "acts" like a 13 year old boy. The Turing test states that is a a third of human
judges are convinced that the chat they are having with is a person, then that person must be a human. The identity of the A.I. was
Eugene Gootman, a 13 year old boy. Are we closer to real androids, as in science fiction? What do you think? :innocent:

There's that other thread, as Publison wrote.
I just wanted to comment that no, that is not what the Turing test states, it's a common misunderstanding. What Turing was refering to was simply a prediction of where he expected the state of the art to be 50 years into the future.

Well, CNC had a bit of discussion about this. The 13 year old boy was supposedly from a rather isolated foreign country. So the whole thing was really more about removing the computer from any responsiblity for participating in a wide range of topics and just banter without much real communication value.

I have had similar situations with English second lanaguage learners that can keep a conversation going for quite awhile without actually saying anything or understanding anything.

I'd have to say that if there is no genuine communication that in some way negotiates meaning about shared knowledge or view point, it is all just a parlor trick.
