FaceBook saves climber's life - well not really.

Here is an article claiming that FaceBook saved a climber's life after asking for help via a status update on FB.

The reality is that the global Iriudim satellite network paired with the Delorme inReach device is what is really responsible for allowing him to communicate. The inReach device allows for emailing, social network messaging or sending an SOS via satellite anywhere on the planet. He could have just as easily hit the SOS button and communicated with rescuers directly or emailed someone. The fact that he chose FB is secondary.

I have the new inReach Explorer on order as a safety device for use in my upcoming cross country hang gliding adventures.

Here is another, more informative article; http://m.bgdailynews.com/news/wku-educator-hurt-in--foot-fall-in-himalayas/article_ac8de943-8b65-5783-9736-bf5b43a4dc5a.html?mode=jqm
