Update!

I just launched my Kickstarter this morning (5/12)! Thank you for all of your help with reviewing it. I really appreciate the suggestions.

Hey Everyone, I have a small campaign that I'm launching this Monday, May 12 for an automatic Rubber band Blaster that shots 10 rubber bands per second and is instantly reloadable. Some you might remember when I first talked about it last fall here: http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php/150484-The-Rubber-Band-Blaster-32-10-rounds-per-second-instantly-reloadable

I was hoping that the forum would be able to help me by taking a look at the preview site and letting me know if there is anything that I should change or clarify. Spelling is not my greatest strength...

Anyhow, a little bit more about the campaign.

I'm going to be selling it as a kit where you have two options:
1) Print (.STL) Files Only ($5)
RBB-32 CADs copy.jpg

I'll send you the .stl files that you can then use with your 3D printer to print out the body of the RBB-32. You'll then need to source the motor, battery case, trigger button, screws, string etc. It shouldn't be too hard, especially if you already have the parts laying around.

2) Print (.STL) Files AND Parts ($19)
Second set copy.jpg

In addition to sending you the .stl files that you'll use to print the body of the RBB-32 I will send you all of the parts that you'll need to assemble your very own RBB-32!

Left you some feeback - nothing major.

I like the way you constructed the campaign. It's an interesting and entertaining read....that should help!

    Good luck!!

Really cool idea. Seems pretty cheap for all the parts, too!

How long did it take you to make this?

The short answer is way too long! :) I think I've spent more than 400 hours on the design, website (www.ShuttleBayLabs.com), pictures, and videos. It really was one of those projects that I just had a lot of fun working on and getting everything just right. I tried to figure out a way to sell them assembled, but even using resin molds it still took way too long and I didn't want to try and get into injection molding, that's a lot of money!

I wanted to sell the print files and kits cheap enough so that people could buy it without actually having a 3D printer right now. They'll never expire and it's something that I'm guessing most of the people here on the forums are going to have in the next 2-3 years. Also, there's a number of places that connect you with someone who has a 3D printer and will print it for you for a small cost like Make XYZ (www.makexyz.com)

It's been a labor of love and I hope people have fun with it. :)

Not work if you love it, right?!

Would definitely support it, if I had the $$.

Good luck on the Kickstarter campaign!

    I would back it.

I would also add two more reward levels - include the printed parts, and a fully assembled model. If not both then at least the fully assembled model. Make the price worth your while ($50 to $100), there are probably plenty of people that would want it but would not care to build it. Having a high priced fully assembled version would also increased the perceived value of the other reward levels.

A couple other comments. Your video show the blaster well but it is missing your voice. It would be much better if you were in the video presenting the blaster, describing it, and having it knock down a row of targets. You would have a much better chance of your video being shared that way, lots more exposure.

W9GFO's right; not something complicated, just something that proves it works.

Hey thanks guys, I'll look into adding two very limited levels. One that includes all of the printed parts too and one for a fully assembled Blaster.

I'll have to see if we have any paper cups that I can use, it would need to be a lot, we're talking Sam's Club quantity :)

Gee, Dave, you are only 400% funded with 25 days to go!

Clearly, there is a vast untapped demand for rapid fire rubber band weaponry!
