Would a 3D printer (set-up right), Be able to follow regular print coordinates?
'
By this I mean a BITMAP or JPEG and not G-code/Vector code?
'
The Bitmap would have to have layers. But would the filament stick if in PRINT mode? (pixel by pixel non Vector mode)
'
This would deposit filament pixel by pixel and not really continuous.

3d printer are more like a plotter.
think about a tube of glue you are pressing constantly and moving around while doing so.
Enjoy!

And that is in a development environment where everyone is looking for ways to do faster or better quality.
The RepRap Wiki G-code entry also mentioned a few very interesting alternatives. The most promising seems to be called 'Elegant'

But there are other possibilities...
