Anyone write robit type programs here using not actual physical robots

Anyone write robot type programs here using not actual physical robots but languages like VB which are easy to make it all on screen visual ?

I watched a program awhile back where programmers were were writing robot code using shapes and the look of them were often quite different but simple looking, they seemed to learn not to try and go outside a big square that they were in... and some kept their distance from 'others' while other were prone to follow some, and some didnt much like to be followed so kept on making efforts to keep their distance ?

Software simulators can be useful for bench testing code and sensors, but I don't bother with robot simulators for navigation. From my experience, there are too many variables involved.
