Automotive Console

I have a 1973 Plymouth Duster and a 1936 Plymouth coupe, both almost restored that I want to put an AM/FM/MP3 player and instrument status into. I would like to preserve the current vehicle appearance, so placing these in the current console is not a requirement I'm tackling the radio's first because they seemed the easiest.
I would like to use the propeller for processing and display. I have the 2 x 16 Backlit board from Parallax. May have to upgrade to a larger display later. I want to reuse the buttons and the amplifier.
I really like this breakout board.

I would like to use the propeller to control this breakout board. Is there something like this for AM, or a component to tune the station. I can't find anything that isn't Surface Mount. Also is there a proto board that I can use for Surface Mount.

2nd You can get the Prop.in a 40 pin DIP, (throuh hole) and you can surface mount a lot of chips on a .100" spaced perf board. I do this all the time.
'
3rd you can unsoilder the on/off-volume buttuns -etc. in the old radios to use with the new remote mounted stereo.(disconnect the old circuit)

Some more detail of the set-up would really help your post.
