So I have been away for a couple months due to complications in life. Last thing I could really follow was the 5W discussion. So I'm wondering (without time to read through a few thousand threads) what has happened to the P2? Has the schedule been pushed back? Will it live in FPGA for now? Is the P16x32 the new path for real silicon? References to Chip's posts would be awesome. Wish I had more time to catch up but... Life...

The best is to lay back, look, wait and hope for the best.

Good advice. Wouldn't hurt to cross your fingers and wish hard either. I have.
May I propose a moment of silence at Midnight tonight GMT.
The P16X32 Parallax is now proposing is much more like the original idea for a P2 than the 5W P2 ended up being.
So it is more a matter of "The King is dead, long live the King!"
Ross.
Seems kind of harsh.....it's not dead, it's just resting.

Phil, you just said the same thing I said in the other thread, but you said it in one line with a nice metaphor.
Yes, a very nice analogy. What about calling the new processor the "Monarch"?
Ross.
Joe, I'm waiting for the dust to settle. I don't know enough to kick up any myself!
Here's where we're at with P2, with apologies to Eric Carle and his hungry caterpillar,
We've "eaten through" the page that has everything from swiss cheese to cherry pie, with just usb/serdes ("watermelon") left to eat though.
Unfortunately, at that point P2 had a (power consumption induced) stomach ache.
Now we're eating a nice, green leaf, and slimming down a little (but not too much), before entering the Onsemi cocoon
And, I think it'd be offended to be called P1+...
yes, P2(pre-alpha) has become P2(release candidate)
(well, it will after some FPGA builds and OnSemi Sim reality checks )
Oh, dear! As the previous (thankfully) owner of a Ford Pinto, I can say with authority that an associaiton with that POS car would be an insult to any product.

I seem to recall a Monty Python skit about a parrot to which this was the unfortunate punch line.
Ding, ding, ding!!!
You win the prize! I was going to attach the clip but I've been posting from my tablet or phone and that attachment stuff is too hard if not on a proper PC.

I don't know how long a company can continue like that.
I hope the P1 stays around for years to come but that will only happen if Parallax makes good business decisions.
I don't see how a viable business can let a forum full of enthusiastic people, whom have no dollars in the outcome, drive the product decision to the point of silicon bloat and 5 watts.
Sounds more like a hobby-shop than a for profit company.
Sorry for being harsh, but i have seen many companies over the years make the same mistake. One product is a success and instead of incrementally improving, those companies shot for the moon and loosed. Those companies are no longer with us.
Just don't want that to happen to Parallax.

It is not our business how Parallax balances it's books.
We were invited here to throw ideas about a future product into the development process.
And so we did. In bucket loads.
I am confident something very wonderful will come out of this.
Even if it does not make the instant riches of an Instagram.
My bad.
cheers,

But it is not so cut and dry. The ARM processor was a crazy, audacious, venture when it was kicked off by a small company with no money.
Somebody, somewhere, has to do this crazy **** else we make no progress.
