Vacation Opportunities for Chip

Guys: Just my idea... feel free to post your thoughts.

Chip,

The most important thing that you needed to do...you have done. You've decided the overall direction for the next chip. You deserve a vacation anywhere you want.
Let me suggest leaving the family at home. Instead take Phil... you know the one....to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pushchino

I know. It is Russia, pickled this and pickled that. But remember, this is a workman's holiday!!! You are expected to design Propellers in your sleep... and sell them on vacation.

When I was there, there was one telephone line in and one telephone out and I'm not sure they were the same line.

What they do have are some of the best people in the world and some of the finest scientists... just the kind of scientist that would appreciate Phil's work.
They use RF for biologic research all the time.
They once showed me an infra-red picture of some of their forests... not good. When I asked what was causing it... they looked at me like I was from Mars:)

Let me know what you decide:)

Rich

    Spokesperson for Chip here.

He can't go to Pushchino, Russia for a vacation. First, he has five little kids and most of them go to school every day unless they're too young. Morning and evening hours are like Times Square at Chip's house and no amount of "I have a very understanding wife" would support such a trip right now. What he needs to do is simply take a walk 2-3x a day, through the orchard or to the nearby park. This would clear his head and provide much-needed exercise. It could be a good idea for me to take away his internet connection for three weeks, too.

The notion of managing him is some sort of illusion anyway.

    LOL.

Since you mentioned that, I just have to agree ;-) I was forced to chase my young kids all over Honolulu and WhackyWacky beach once.

I liked the suggestion that Chip should go down to the mall with a chainsaw and let off steam.

No, wait, it wasn't the mall, what was it now...

Isn''t this where Uncle Ken, Aunt Mary Beth, and Grandpa Chuck step in? It would be my honor to accompany Chip for several weeks in Cabo Pulmo, BCS. And I can guarantee you it would be all about snorkeling, windsurfing, and "enjoying the slow," without a whiff of shoptalk!

What you need to do is set up a copy of these forums somewhere, then put a router in front of the real ones that detects Chip's IP address, and sends him off to the copy forum instead of the original one.

On these fake forums (which only you and he have access to), you emulate all the normal belligerent posters, but just post innocuous, supportive and calming messages, like "Great Idea Chip! Agree 100%! Let's lock that one in and move on! Are we ready for that shuttle run yet?"

    I bet we'd have a P16X32B in a couple of weeks!

    Ross.

P.S. Oh, and I guess you'd better delete this message before Chip sees it.

Seriously...vacations are too much of a hassle...especially vacations involving international travel. Too often you come home more tense than when you left. You have to take a vacation to recover from your vacation. No good. Much better to take a walk through the woods, climb a hill, or spend the morning at a nearby ski resort.

I don't know what kind of vacations you've suffered from, but that's never been the case with mine. The only thing close to stress I've ever suffered is culture shock upon returning to the US from a more laid-back locale. But that quickly dissipates long before the mind-cleansing benefits of the get-away fade.

Look, this is sorta the case with Chip right now and both of us would agree with User Name's analysis. Phil Pilgrim's vacations are great because he loafs around in Baja like a hippie (and he doesn't have five kids).

Right now Chip wants to finish Propeller 2 and the only break he needs is for daily exercise. Plus, his kids are in school and they're not out for summer vacation. You want Propeller 2 in FPGA by summer, so all this fits in with his schedule just fine.

I agree with who ever said it. Vacations are very stressful. Give me time when I don't have to fly anywhere, don't have to get used to new stuff, don't have to try and pretend I'm having a good time. Where I can eat what I like when I like and sleep when I like. Give me a week at home playing and talking to those little kids any time. Children have a way to bring you back to reality.

Okay, seen Chip on a road trip through Truckee and over to King's Beach for a day of kayaking in early spring on Lake Tahoe..... maybe one over-night stay to relax.

Oversea vacations are stressful? You just never have been to Japan.
