Clever idea. Not being able to leave anything alone, if I were going to compromise the integrity of the roof of a shed, I might use a large glass pickle jar in place of a plastic soda bottle. And the water I put in would be a saturated salt solution, since local temps get pretty cold in the winter.
BTW, in Southwest USA art communities, colored glass bottles are mortared in place in walls, for a similar effect.
