I just watched this show regarding Google's attempt to create a online library.

It's pretty interesting

    Before Google, there was the Gutenberg Project.

    In fact there still is a Gutenberg Project that is quite large and useful. It just got stunted when the US Congress decided that Mickey Mouse shouldn't enter public domain in our lifetimes.

    And so, Google tried to end-run the Congress.
