Resistive Touch Buttons: Going Berzerk!

I've been noticing some strange behavior with the resistive touch buttons on the QuickStart development board (Rev. A). They seems to be highly sensitive to changes in the environment. For instance, in room #1 they respond as expected, in room #2 they are almost entirely unresponsive, and in room #3 they appear to be overly responsive. I've even noticed that they behave differently if my laptop power cord is connected vs. it not being connected.

Any ideas?

This driver has been working really well for me. (from last time) But touch is finiky. Different skin, pressure, humidity, temperature... different response. http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php/154550-Debouncing-QuickStart-touch-pads?p=1249744&viewfull=1#post1249744
