What apps for my Tablet?

So, I finally broke down and bought a $100.00 Android tablet. 10.1 inch screen, 1 GB RAM, 4 GB storage plus various other bells and whistles. I am just curious, what free or relatively cheap apps do people use for 3 D drawings and other day to day things that one does? I am looking at a couple different Office apps but other than that I have no clue as to what is good and what is not. There seems to be an App for pretty much everything and I do not want to bloat the thing with unneeded apps. Thanks for any advice you all might have.

Ummm. maybe take two Tablets and call in the morning.

If I were to buy a Tablet, I would mainly consider the following:

    A. Pleco Dict - for learning Chinese, extremely good and probably the last thing you need.

    www.pleco.com

    B. A good RPN calucuator emulator.

I've used Swype for years on my old Dell Streak Android tablet:

+1 for Swype and also the Swift keyboard, oh and the Hackers keyboard can be useful.

Orbot and associated search/chat stuff to prevent Google from monitoring your every move.

Calculators: RealCalc, Programmer's Calc, HP-45 emulator

    resistor/capacitor calcs, etc., etc.

I also occasionally use BASIC! as it is possible to edit and run right on the device. I have created test apps that talk to my Props via Bluetooth (some lower-end tabs don't have BT, though).

There is a huge problem with android tablets - even fastest, octa core mega ones are slow on doing anything else than scrolling webpages or watching online video. I'd estimate their performance as 500mhz Pentium 3 with 64mb of ram. These are specialized devices, never created with electronics design in mind. If you want something useful in this form factor, you should get a windows tablet (not the RT one, but normal windows). But sure, price will be at least 5x higher.

    I like:

    1. Evernote, along with their PC browser clipping plugin, for saving webpages to read later.
    2. PocketCasts, for podcasts
    3. A banking app, for mobile deposits and account checkups
    4. Google Play Music
    5. WiFi Analyzer
    6. BlueTerm
    7. Chrome, not a device specific browser

And of course Google Maps, Voice, and Gmail.

I just published my first app ever. It's a simple lil thing that that I used to learn about the whole process. But it's still useful for sports statistics fans. I have no idea how it looks on a tablet. I'd love to know if the formating of the text screws up & runs over or something(need to learn more on fragments). But it's free and requires no permissions so if you get a chance I'd appreciate it!

#1 total commander . you need a Real File manager and this one is the best
#2 Airdroid . you can push and pull files on your device and not need a USB cable so less wear and tear .

#3 dubble twist . VERY nice music SW It lets you choose the Drive you place your songs . as I dont like to use my internal storage as the local for my Media or user data . so I can force DT to use my Ext SD ( the REAL SD as some call the perm solderd on flash as SD also ( Its on a SPI bus so It makes some sense I guess))))

#4HF calc is a sweet sci calc that is not too heavy for everyday use but can do EE math with ease . and Its layout is nice too ..

I just got a NVidia shield for fun and games . It clocks in at 1.9 GHz and its 4 cores . plays my old games very well
I also have a 8 inch Kids tab for work as its was cheap and has a nice bumper .
I have a SGS3 as my main phone . and I got a OLD ATT unlocked GSM 4 band android 2.2 " burner "for a work phone as it was easy to remove the cams on it to make it * work * approved .

BTW what Exaclty did you buy ???

If you use Amazon I would grab the Kindle App since it is great for reading and you can even get some good books for free. Also if you install the Amazon AppStore as well (can work side by side with the Google Play store) you can get an App a day for free from them. I usually check once a day and they have posted the Autodesk drawing app and a nice calculator app for free. Even if you don't use them right away you can keep it on file as a purchase to use anytime later on.

This is the one I bought.

Nothing fancy but it will get the job done. I found that playing music over a network is a quick way to kill the battery!!!! Not what I bought it for but was just messing around with it today. I found a great writing app thanks to Franklin and Xanadu. I can use my finger to write and it gets converted to text. I tried a few out until I found one I was happy with. This will come in handy when taking notes and pictures for potential clients. No more struggling with a clipboard and separate camera!!!
