NiZn cells arrived today (took about a month)

I had previously mentioned NiZn AA cells at a nominal 1.6 volts. And I also mentioned they hadn't arrived from Hong Kong in the past month.

It seems that you have to order out of Hong Kong as these appear to longer be sold in the USA retail.

Well, the 4 AA cells and the charger final arrived today from Hong Kong. I am very much looking forward to trying these as two AA cells will provide 3.2 or more volts for a the Propeller WITHOUT A VOLTAGE REGULATOR.

The OTHER nice thing is that 4 of these cells are ideal for the
BOEbot with the original AA carrier. You can have 4 cells that are rechargable. I have set aside my BOEbot for years because I dislike buying Alkaline.

Fully charged and fresh off the charger, the voltage reads at 1.88 volts. So the peak voltage is not too high for 3.3volt logic (2 x 1.88 = 3.8 volts)

The one's I purchased are 2500 ma/hour.

I have been able to get Ni-Zn through Amazon.

    Last year it PowerGenix:

    http://www.amazon.com/Processing-days-2500mAh-Ni-ZN-Battery-Package/dp/B00H3DB1GE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1395413685&sr=8-2&keywords=nizn+aa+batteries

Got mine in a week. Now it seems you have to wait 30-40 on some ites.

Two months ago I got 20 BPI Ni-Zn batteries and charger. Shipped in a week. Now they have disappeared.

Batteries of the month from Amazon, PKcell. Ships from China.

    http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Ni-ZN+AA+batteries&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3ANi-ZN+AA+batteries

    The saga continues.

BTW, I like the BPI charger better than the PowerGenix as it charges at a lower current.

Interesting. 2500 mAH is the rated capacity, often very different from actual. Have you tested them yet, Loopy?

I have used them mainly in our Camera... They provide a relatively constant output until the end, so be warned, they work great, but have a sharp 'cliff' without any warning of fatigue. To charge them I use a standard over night trickle charger set on NiMH mode.

Garp!!!! I now see that the label says 2500mW/hours, not mA/hours. So at 1.6volts that would actually be about 1565 mA/hours.

Haven't yet tested, but will do so. I suppose I best set up an LED or something as a load and get out the timer.... with Hong Kong sources you just never are quite sure the first time around.

This are indeed PowerGenix. NiZn rechargable, says for 'hi-drain applications'.

So if you do the math in terms of mW/hours, a 1.2v 2083mA/hour NiMH would be 2500mW/hours as well.

I guess this really is a more realistic parameter of power in the package than mA/hour.
