Arlo motors with encoder

Will motors operate without encoder circuits connected? Don't need the encoder function at this time and this is my first go with robotics and encoder motors. Just need motors to operate in forward and reverse in a very simple circuit configuration whereas applying voltage via relays (not using motor controllers). Thanks for your help. Have a great day.

Sure, they are brushed DC motors which could be switched via relays. Encoders are a completely seperate circuit.

The only time you have to worry is with an engineering brushless motor which can
be supplied with an absolute encoder and no hall-sensors. Typically they have hall-sensors
though, since encoders are often incremental (and thus not useful for commutation).
