RJ-45 Ethernet Jack on Gigabit LAN

The Spinneret schema shows RJ45 jack with pins 4-5 and 7-8 internally connected together (dead short). Most today's routers and switches are Gigabit and use all 8 wires of Cat5 Cat6 cable. What happens when you plug Spinneret (or webcam, or any gizmo for that matter) into gigabit network? Will the network switch or router get damaged by the short on pins 4-5 and 7-8? I'm curious. Do you guys know the answer?
