Two accounts

I have two email addresses, one at home and a different one at work. As a result I have two accounts on this forum and can only see one set of posts at a time. Furthermore, when I forget my password (we have too many passwords these days), I can only reset the one where I am.

Q1: Can I have multiple emails on one account so that I can receive reset emails at either site?

Q2: Can I merge the two accounts so that I can see all my posts in one place?

    Hello Doug,

First, multiple accounts on the Forum is a no-no according to the Forum Guidelines:

Second, I've viewed your account an see no "switches" that might enable merging of accounts. Unless one of the Forum Gurus says different, I'm afraid you'll have to relinquish one account.

This really saddens me. This means I can only access the forums from one physical location. It seems to be a severe limitation.

What are the steps to relinquish an account?

    Doug,

You can access the forum from most any web browser, I don't see how being at home or work would matter.

The email address seems to just be used for initial account verification, it really doesn't come into play as far as access from a browser.

I'm confused. My forum is actually tied to a gmail email account - so if you are allowed to access gmail from work, then you can get to it for password resets.

Beyond password resets, what does your email have to do with using the forum? You should be able to log into the forum with your forum ID from anywhere.

Is the problem that when you do forget your password, if you happen to be at work, you would need to wait until you got home before you could access it with the new password? (or vice versa if you used your work email address).

Does either your work on home email account allow for web based access?

Um, no - you can access the Forum from anywhere.

I've one account, and the verification email address is one of three that I have ( 2 X business, 1 X personal). I have been able to access the Forum from anywhere in California and Bangladesh.

I do not see where the verification email address comes into play.

Forum Moderators should have the ability to remove the account of your choice.

davejames is correct about not being able to merge accounts or to have multiple e-mail addresses associated with one account. That is the nature of vBulletin. By default the system attempts to prevent a person from having more than one account by checking to see if an e-mail address is in use, however that does not prevent someone from using multiple e-mail accounts. Having multiple accounts is frowned upon, however if you have your own personal account as a hobbyist and you have a login for your company and you happen to be the forum go-to guy then it isn't such a big deal. We have members who have a login under their company or organization for whom they speak on behalf of. These same people may have their own personal login for discussing their own personal projects or asking tech support questions. It's important to remember that people will communicate with you and identify you by your username on here.

If you then have another account one of three things can happen...first it's easy to get disconnected and/or confused by a thread with responses from the same person under two usernames. Especially if you don't know it's the same person. Second, there's accountability...if there's an issue on the forums it becomes too easy to hide behind an alternate username. And finally, I have seen the clever ways which spammers and sometimes others use multiple accounts to boost thread activity and/or boost reputation through comments made from the other account. Sometimes if they're selling something or referencing an external site such as eBay. So yeah, best to have one account. :thumb:
