Basic Stamp Discovery Kit Questions

To whom it may concern,


I have the Basic Stamp discovery Kit (Serial). I was curious if I have the capability to to program the BS2 and implant it on another platform - say to control a robot? If I do implant the chip onto another platform what supporting circuitry is needed to enable the chip to work? I guess what I am asking is if I can use the BS2 outside of this learning kit? I'm fairly new to all of this, so I am sorry if my question lacks the technological terminology that you all expect. Thanks for your help.

Sure, a BS2 is a fine controller board for a little robot or other project. It's similar to a Board of Education (BoE) which controls Parallax's fine BoeBot, one of the best-selling robots of all time.

The Discovery Kit has what you need to get started so you should start by reading the What's a Microcontroller book. Once you finish WAM there is a BOE-Bot kit if robotics interests you. There is a kit on Process Control and another on Basic Analog and Digital. Later you can try the StampWorks Kit.
Also there are all kinds of accessories for the BOE-Bot.
All of the manuals and texts can be downloaded for free but WAM will get you started.
