What is it with the "Happy Birthday" posts?

What is it with all the "Happy Birthday" posts here?

I mean, we all have birthdays, right?

Unless we have shuffled off this mortal coil perhaps. Which of course the forum software knows nothing about.

And who is publishing their date of birth on the internet anyway?

I don't get it.

It's just a friendly gesture to anyone who may have the DOB fields public in settings. For everyone else, I suppose it's an a-friendly gesture :)

    Jazzed,

I know, it's kind of "cute" in that social media Face Book kind of way.

I'm too old for "cute". In fact I did not like it thirty years ago.

Smacks too much of that fake smile and welcome you get in McDonalds the world over.

Sorry, I'm becoming a grumpy old git. As opposed to that grumpy young git I used to be.

    Heater,

We are a close family here, don't you agree? I don't see any harm in birthday greetings

The birthdays show up under the "forums" tab for those who choose to display them.

I can do a poll to see if forum members are for or against.

Ya know, Heater, you're probably only a few bytes or longs short of being nominated to the Parallax Star Contributors web page. You've provided so much to Parallax customers, our staff, and the P2 development.

How are we going to talk you into writing a bio and providing a picture of yourself when that happens? It was really difficult to extract it from Phil, and Jazzed isn't playing so friendly so far. I suspect you'll also not want to be recognized. When that happens I have to write the bio myself.

If the birthday bit bothers you, wait till you become a fully ratified member of the Star Contributors web page!

    Good Idea User Name!

We should start a "Hugs for Heater" thread!

Let's not attack Heater. He was just making an observation.

That's not an attack, it's a friendly little jab.

I was even going to add an edit and suggest we start a fund to get him a filament booster...

Heater I also don't put my birthday info here or anywhere else. I have even taken my call sign off my signature. The NSA knows too much as it is. But I will admit in this thread that my birthday is the day after Ken's happy belated birthday Ken!

Birthday greetings should be portable and given in an expressive way!

    Heater,

If Ken presses you for a bio, just do what I did and make something up. ('Haven't looked at mine lately. Does it still say that Ken rescued me from a carnival?)

We could write a biography for Heater as a community project! Ken could start it as Open Source Project #3!

If we are going to stop it can we delay it till after April?

Perhaps it should be a forum joining date birthday celebration? Now who's the oldie?

Well, no one is going to wish me a Happy Birthday on my Birthday by looking at any of my signon details. I have a real birthday, and the one I use for the internet that requires a birthdate.
Maybe I am just old and paranoid?

No, you're just presuming to be royalty, whose "official" birthdays differ from their real ones. :)

That would be the "realty" (regal) estate ones:) God bless the Queen. No offences, just a random thought :)
