I still don't see it. I must be missing something. The before and after looks like my daughters concept of "cleaning" ... Just a bunch of shoving around with nothing really picked up, just in a different place.
Visiting the local RS to buy a potentiometer a few days ago, the only difference I could make out was that the red labels on the parts drawers were now white. Didn't seem too profound. The only real change appears to be an increased advertising budget to sell their newly concocted spin. (Small 's'.) Still, it was nice to obtain a 1/2W 10k linear pot in a few minutes rather than a few days or a few weeks.

Most girls I have known have a concept of cleaning that includes throwing out anything that does not look immediately useful and can't be hidden away some place.
That generally includes a lot of your geek toys!
Radio Shack are doing the same, reducing the number of lines they stock from 5000 to 4000 or some such.
Visited my local Radio Shack last week... Two millennials were working behind the counter..
When I asked them if their store was going to be remodeled, they said that it had!
The top three foot of the wall around the store had been painted white over the green that was originally there, and they had new t-shirts!
I felt so bad for them, that I politely refused to use the joke that was on the tip of the my tongue. "The 90's called... They want their store back..."
The problem is structural not cosmetic. They have no idea who their customers are so they dabble here and dabble there and never seem to have what people want. Their stores are small so they can't carry everything or cater to everybody. They need to focus on what they are good at and get rid of all the extraneous stuff they have. Hobbyists used to be their core focus until recently.

The "BIG" change is another PR BS attempt...and it will work for a bit as the lemmings will follow anything...once.
They are trying to dovetail on to the Apple "Less Is More" success...it works for Apple because they actually have something to sell...but even that rose is losing its bloom.
I've already started making a list of what to buy at the RS store closings...the problem is there really isn't much left for a do-it-selfer to buy.
