TAB SumoBot Kit Repair

I just got a used one off Ebay. Onboard SMT BS2, no SMT LED lightup, no response to hails from the editor. Anybody with any relevant troubleshooting/repair experience, or should I return to sender? These are getting rare, so I wouldn't mind taking a shot at repairing it. IIRC there may be a Yahoo group for these bots.
Edit:There WAS a Yahoo group, but no more. http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php/84199-Tab-Electronics-sumo-bot

BUT! The battery holders on these boards are amazingly tight and I've had the positive ends not touching the contacts. Make sure that they are engaged because the friction can prevent it.
The smt BS2 should be a PIC16F57 (I think), and in the SSOP package, ( http://ww1.microchip.com/downloads/en/DeviceDoc/41208C.pdf ), and pins 1 and 14 are Gnd(first and last on one edge), and Vdd(5V) is on pins 3 and 4.
Andy, thanks for your kind offer. I'll take a shot at troubleshooting this board first (and I can always return to Ebay seller). This is the best online pic of the board I found so far: http://canabots.webs.com/chessie.htm
Hello!
erco, if that's what you have, and they match the photo, then who you have is old enough to (learn how to) drive. I saw the kits for sale in the Barnes and Noble in Forest Hills Queens almost every time I was in the area.
It's related to the one that Parallax sells but only just.
I agree with the others, see if the battery holder is working properly. Also see if there's some way of feeding it the voltage it needs off the board, and also just as carefully.
Gotta dig deeper, next is Martin's "test the built-in" routines not using the BS2.
