SICK LMS200 Laser Scanners

I am negotiating for a number of used SICK LMS200 Laser scanners (2D, 80 m on reflective surface, 10-20 on 10% reflective). I have an application for a number of them but have the option to get more if I want. The negoitations are not complete yet, and I was wondering if anyone else might be interested in obtaining one (oe more). Don't know how much they will be yet, but less than $1000 ... perhaps substantially less. Please let me know if you might be interested, ASAP.

These are used units recovered from industrial installations. New they are in the $6000 - $8000 range, depending upon the exact model. I don't know what I will have to pay yet as I am negotiating that with the supplier, but the more I buy, the cheaper they are. SICK is the brand that most of the DARPA challenge cars use, etc. They are supported by ROS, but output RS232 or RS422 which can easily be read by a microprocessor like the Prop. I already have 2 that are mounted on a inspection robot I built. These are serious industrial sensors that run on 24v at 20 watts. I will be buying a number of them, but thought I might see if anyone else wanted to get in on a good price for a seriously cool piece of hardware that can be used in robotics, 3D scanners (with a turntable).

You kids and your money. You're going to have a sweet rig with those on it. Can you post pictures?

Even at 1/8 the new price they are too rich for my blood. I'll make do with the cheap ones with no housing.

Do you anticipate frequent sub-freezing operation? I hadn't considered the affects of temperature on the units, do they really need heaters?
