I'd seriously reconsider getting these. This buyer was not at all happy, and it appears he used the product as advertised:

    http://www.amazon.com/Imation-3-5-Inch-DS-HD-IBM-Formatted/product-reviews/B00004YKNF/ref=cm_cr_dp_qt_hist_one?ie=UTF8&filterBy=addOneStar&showViewpoints=0

Hmmm. Well I seemed to have very bad luck with keeping anything on a 3.5" floppy. I presumed it was the tropical temperatures, the high humidity, and the local acid air pollution working against the ferric oxide. I do believe I can still buy these over the counter here in Taiwan, but why bother?

    kwinn,
The birth rate in the developed world is less than that required to maintain the current population...
That only means that we in the western world are the first culture in history to voluntarily drive itself to extinction.

Depends on how you look at it. The birth rate is less than that required to maintain the current population, but the population is still increasing as a result of immigration. The culture could very well survive, but the racial/genetic makeup might be quite different.

True enough, in principle. Except that when I said "culture" I meant "culture/race/genetic make up/religion/politics" because they are very strongly correlated and intertwined.

I did not want to say that because it would make some ballistic when they interpret it as something I am not saying.

We can drop this thought as being way off topic for a thread about a floppy disk.

Good idea. I've already had my fingers slapped for drifting into taboo topics.

What religious and political affiliations do you suppose this conservative old floppy disk has? :)

All hail the mighty CPU, or for a more polytheistic take, All hail the Counsel of Rams and for the more agnostic, All hail the mighty Null.

I think that about covers it ?

Politically, a "floppy" sounds like a moderate!

I liken this early PBASIC floppy disk to this rare NES cartridge on Ebay. Priceless in value and potential, even though it doesn't look like much on the outside.

What am I still hanging on to this?

    Mono Card.jpg

1984 Hercules video card out of my first XT. Upgraded the computer to EGA when I sold it.

Anyone need a spare parallel port for your ISA computer? :)

Currently $30.5K with a day to go. There's no telling how much localroger's floppy disk would bring at auction!

    Close to $100K? Say what?

Me thinks IRS also has this on their watch list. :)

Somewhat off topic but a colleague of mine brought a big brown cardboard box of his old junk into the office the other day.
In there I found original installation floppies for BeOS. Circa 1991.
If I could find a floppy drive I'd see if it still works or at least take an image backup.

Followed them pretty closely at the time, had a BeBox ordered, but cancelled as to very slow shipments.

Nintendo Cart back up. How many of the bids are bogus? At that price they should be using a professional auction house that can validate the bidders.

Yeah, it was obviously not worth anywhere near the final price. I read that the winning bidder backed out, claiming their 2 year old kid had placed the bid.
