PropCam a neat product!

I saw the PropCAM http://www.parallax.com/product/28320 and instantly figured Phil Pilgrim must have designed it, as it looked so much like the line scan camera. So I began poking around the documentation until I found his name in the sample code.

I already have the Propeller based CMU cam, so I don't need one, but it looks like a neat product.

    Wrong. You need one.

I know I do. I'm ordering one now.

BTW, Where have you been the last seven and half years? Here's the PropCAM thread.

Wow, I could claim that thread predates my being on the forum, but it has updates last year. So I must live in under a rock or suffer from acute cluelessness.

Or, could it be, you have a life outside of the forums?

BTW, I did just order a PropCAM.

I am thinking that the PropCAM may be a nice solution for the underwater ROV that my daughter and I will be building in a March for a science project. I have an unused Propeller Backpack so this would create a very small package for the CPU and vision system for the ROV. The existing camera I have to use for the ROV is the size of a typical CCTV camera. It produces an unreal color NTSC video source but is much larger than this PropCAM. Looks like my only concern with this setup would be the lack of available I/O on the Backpack.

The I2C port is available from the PropCAM's mezzanine connector. As long as the connected devices' I2C addresses do not conflict with that of the sensor, you could do some I/O expansion that way.
