Love the robots, especially with the LED eyes for mood effect.
But does this mean we are transitioning our next generation beyond being couch potatoes and toward never getting out of bed or leaving their room? The kids bedroom looks like a robot parking lot.
Embedded Nerd? a new career path and job description.
Previously I had seen a quad flyer inside a spherical cage that was gimbaled and in the shape of a dodecahedron. That would have the advange of rolling in any directon when a surface is encountered. But the wheels seem to drop away and then the quad can take on cargo. I didn't see a camera on it. The jumper doesn't seem to acquire cargo.
Saw the Parrot demo today. They put on quite a show, very impressive. They had four of the small quads flying in formation maintaining a separation of about two feet, a fifth with wheels joined about midway through. Meanwhile two of the sumos drove out following a black line that was around the perimeter of the stage. Four more jumped up onto the stage from below. For about five minutes the quads and the sumos performed a well choreographed routine including jumping up onto a pair of snare drums, balancing on two wheels and synchronized pirouettes.
I asked how the precision flying was accomplished. I was told that it was pre-programmed routines that were aided by the onboard cameras which were tracking markers on the stage. He made it sound like the routine was stored on the vehicle but I believe that they were being flown by a separate computer which would make corrections to the routine using the video feed.

These do look like fun creative platforms.
(erco, I don't think DARPA has more robots than you do! )

The quad is okay but I really like that jumping balancing robot, will have to check it out. Anyone else going to CES?
Having the quad with wheels is a profound innovation.. makes flying indoors very interesting.
Did the flying one have a camera ?
Yes, impressive and potential for Search/Rescue and access to hot spots, in all sense of the word.
SWAT teams could need an embedded nerd...

"... in the year 2525..."
Nice!
So how many here are old enough to have any idea what song that is?

I doubt that there are too many :-)
Best,

Sadly, I am!
Talk about good trivia:
Who knew!
Wow, and to think I was just about ready to take off my aluminum foil hat...
