My brother requested a video walkthrough of my robot collection. I suspect he wants to buy me something I don't have already for Christmas. Good luck, Pal! Thought some folks here might enjoy seeing it.
'Thought I had an idea for your brother -- until the very end: "Drive me and steer me as fast as you can." Not just one, but two of "Robert the robot, mechanical man!"
I think your brother just better stick to Bed, Bath, and Beyond gift cards -- or mail-order Snuggies.
Oh, wait: scratch the latter. After seeing your "Christmas tree," I don't want to see you turned into a polyester-fueled human torch!
Pretty nice collection. I had an Armatron as a kid and loved it. What I didn't see was an original 2-XL. It should count as a collectible robot and would look at home in your collection.
Wow, never seen so many robots in one place. I'm designing a 3D model of Matanya-mini to be printed by 3D printer & will post it to thinkiverse soon, so hope to it on your shelf soon.
I just found someone else's video of the 1985 Tomy Badfoot walker shown in my video. Great mechanism, although this video doesn't show the feet lifting all that clearly. I'll make a full frontal (?) video someday, that's the best angle.
Not vintage but I think an Attacknid would fit in well with your collection.
Quite true. And it would help encourage Jaimie Mantzel to make more crazy stuff, and document the process. His videos are arguably at least as interesting as the end result.
Note to those in the toy industry (e.g. Erco): It would be really cool to see some "behind the scenes" mini-documentaries on how some of the current crop of toys have come about. Put them on this thing they call YouTube. It's new, but I understand it's a great way to share videos with others.
Nice idea Gordon and I agree 100%. Pity that confidentiality and IP issues limit any individual's ability to share those things publically. Only our official media/PR group can run the legal gauntlet and get a video out or get a video crew in. Mostly warm & fuzzy feel good videos. We were on a recent CBS "Sunday Morning", but Mo Rocca didn't dig real deep. I would have been in the video had I not been home sick that day.
One robot I wish I kept from my youth (I was a hopeless robot fanatic from my earliest days) was this Mars Explorer. It wasn't even my favorite then, but it's very rare & pricey now. I had a red one, but the only pic I can find is a silver one. Meaning my red one is even rarer and more valuable! I probably sold it at a yard sale for a quarter in 1970. DUMBARSE!

Looks like a fully funded college fund to me.
I didn't see one of these from Ideal: "Robot Commando"...maybe a suggestion to your brother

More toy robot info. Here's a demo of a typical Horikawa Rotate-A-Matic robot. Walk, stop, open chest doors, fire, rotate, lather, rinse, repeat.
