Header Configuration

Hi All,
Just started using the propeller Activity Board and have my first project up and running on the built in breadboard. Now I want to finalize it on a proto board. I need two 10 pin female headers for the Xbee module and a 2X20 header for I/O.

Will combining female headers work? For example could I use two 1X10 headers in line and two more in line in the holes next to the other two 1X10's for my 2x20 header? I my new to prototyping and don't have any headers to play with and am looking for advice before ordering a bunch of headers.

The board I want to use has the holes on 0.1 inch centers so I think the 2.54mm headers I see listed around should work. Right?

Thanks.

Just be aware that XBee headers have different pin spacing...

    Welcome to the forums, Nwco!

Yes, most single row headers are sized proportionally so that can be placed side by side or end to end and work for larger patterns. There are a few out there that have bulkier bodies, but they are usually types for harsher environments and cost more, so not usually what you would get if you are buying basic headers from Parallax, Sparkfun, Adafruit, Digikey, Mouser, etc.

For the xBee, is it safe to assume you are already using the adapter? It has 2mm pitch spacing and needs an adapter for 2.54mm (0.1")

WOW. you guys are fast! Thanks.
Yes I am using the Parallax Xbee adapter board to convert the radio pin spacing. I should have mentioned that in my post. Thanks for the list of suppliers too.

No problem. And don't forget about Propeller Powered for headers as well: https://www.tindie.com/stores/Propellerpowered/
