Are you "listening" RadioShack?

RadioShack, witless purveyors of Monster Cables, might take a listen:

It's hard to believe that a company can be on the wrong side of so many facets of their business -- and stil be in business. I really feel bad for the owners of my local RadioShack independent franchise. They try so hard to accommodate the needs of their customers, but a totallly clueless corporate headquarters cannot be helping in the least.

The local store does carry non-RS-packaged products, though. Maybe I should skin-pack some coathangers with a nice hang-tab and take some down there. :)

The Shack's course of action is clear: Monster Coat Hangerz!

    re:Maybe I should skin-pack some coathangers

    The problem with
coathangers is that they are not all manufactured the same and if you don't use good ones it could hang up your audio.

Be sure to use plastic coat hangers are for high impedance mylar speakers.

That would make a good Shack metaphor. They can't hear because they spent all their money on cables before they even got to the speakers. At this point I would think if RS had no plan they could at least mimic someone. The post earlier about their site's lack to information on a product reminded me of their supreme perplexities. Something so simple as a link to docs, who doesn't do that?

As always the Onion's humorous story has a fair bit of truth in it.

    Coat hangers? Bah!

A few years back I was involved in writing software for a DSL router. Basically an ARM Linux box with 3 DSL ports at something like 2Mbits/sec a couple of serial ports and so on. An odd device designed to solve a specific networking problem.

Anyway, they took it to an exhibition where they demonstrated it's robustness by connecting two of units together using a couple of coils of barbed wire!

I really cannot understand all the fuss over the monster cables vs coat hangers, It's so obvious that the monster cables win hands down and should be the first choice for your audio system.

Otherwise where are you going to hang your coat?

I've never seen someone talking on a cell phone while hauling butt in a boat. Usually people just enjoy the boat. I think we can start to pinpoint where RadioShack went wrong.

"Millionaire" Richard Gere uses one of those mobile phones with giant base unit in the movie "Pretty Woman". Still cracks me up when I see that.

Mobile phones existed in the 1970's but they were very awkward and expensive, and it was a considerable status symbol to be seen talking on the phone in your car. Usually in the back seat, because if you were that rich you could also hire someone to drive you.

Just imagine how many highway accidents could be avoided if cellphones were kept from the hands of the hoi polloi!

    Yes, exactly.

And whilst we are at it, who ever let them have horseless carriages in the first place?

I think the hands free cell phones are the funniest. They have made it impossible for people to distinguish between a raving lunatic and the merely boorish.

Though in general cell phones have made people quite nasty and selfish. It's nothing for people to tweet others during a face to face conversation or interrupt a conversation to talk to someone else or talk loudly in a public venue like a theater or library. Civility just goes out the door when tech is involved.

Oh, I could watch Julia Roberts in her prime all day long.

Is there a Thanksgiving "Pretty Woman" marathon I'm missing somewhere?

Conversely there used to be a regular at our local watering hole who always sat by himself and spent a lot of time yacking into his mobile phone. Loudly and with much gesticulation. Eventually we worked out that the phone was not even on! Sad case.

In either event, the gesticulation, at least, was moot. :)

Tonight I went to the Weather Underground (http://www.wunderground.com -- not the '70s radical group :) ) website to check the local prediction for overnight temperatures. Lo and behold! There was an ad for RadioShack, promoting four different items -- all of them from Parallax!

The Google ad feed simply knows what pages you've looked at and what you've searched for. My ads were for GoPro cameras because I recently searched for them. At least we know RS is advertising, and part of their rotation is Parallax stuff.
