Seems like a good idea to have one place for anyone and everyone to post Black Friday/Christmas 2013 killer deals of interest to electronic/robotics hobbyists

And that place is here...

LOL..so give us a reason to spend lots of money this holiday season...

And thanks for any info you provide.

FWIW...Radio Shack has a killer Panavise on sale/clearance right now.

I would do anything, including paying full retail price, to avoid the traffic, pandemonium, and smell of the crowd surrounding so-called "Black Friday." The venality of it all sickens me, quite frankly.

Word on the street is that Radio Shack is making some righteous deals on Monster Cables and coathangers.

I couldn't agree more. By now the news programs must have hours of stock footage of people being trampled to death at retail outlets. I think they used said footage as CGI templates for the movie, World War Z.

Check Newegg if you need any computer or consumer electronic stuff. The Egg always has some good deals.

Today for example, I noticed they have a very nice ASUS 23.6" 1080p LED monitor for only $109.99 (after $20 MIR) with "free shipping".

Thanks for posting the info Jen.

As I said, the sooner I know what a retailer is offering, the better chance that retailer gets my money.

    Good luck with the sales!

    @Parallax

A cool feature that would set Parallax apart at times like these (deal times) would be "delayed shipping". This is where the purchasing of goods and the shipment of those goods are separated, and at the customers command.

For example, if I wanted to purchase $50 of sensors on Friday (with the 30% off), but wanted the free shipping. I would wait until Monday when I got my $150 robot and the free shipping. Then the two are merged and sent off.

    Is Parallax listening?

To expand further, maybe when you checkout you have the option for each item to "ship later", and that item would be added to a "purchased" list. On the checkout you would also have the option to "add item from purchased list". If it's added then it goes into the shipping calculator.

Of course, anybody who implements this would have to pull the purchased items from the shelf (or make sure inventory never drops too low) so that it can ship at command.

My use case? I'm pretty scatter brained, so when I remember that I need to buy something I want to buy it now. But I really hate paying shipping, even if it's as low as $5. And some things I don't care about getting quick, I just want to have them (eventually).

Case in point: the Quickstart pin finder. I want a few, but chances are that I'll forget that it's there. I'd much rather purchase some now and ship it with my next order.

As a side note: the pin finder would make a great add on for a Christmas Quickstart special (2 for the price of 1!).

You can just order it all on Monday. The sensor sale continues through Cyber Monday as does the Free Shipping. Just that simple. :)

There are lots of times I've made an "impulse" purchase from Parallax then, after I've pushed the buttons, I think of something else that I need. Alas, it's too late to add to the order so I pay shipping on both. My bad, but it sure would be nice to have the ability to add to an existing order before it is shipped...

$170 MS Surface tablet mfr refurbish, 32 Gb. Great reviews except for cameras & speakers, curiously.

Read in a trade rag that they are going to discontinue Windows 8 RT. They didn't say when, though.

Right you are, dmagnus. This article paints a gloomy forecast for Microsoft and Windows RT.

170 dollars for something that is almost completely useless seems quite a lot to me.
If I understand correctly RT has no software to run on it, no existing Windows programs run on it.

Unless someone figures out how to get a Linux distro booted on it it's just a door stop.

My wife and I are done with Black Friday. It has become more of a hassle to go out on Black Friday so I usually wait till the huge deals on Cyber Monday, or I try for Black Friday deals that are also online. I only go out to the stores after the initial craze.

For those that were unaware, largely due to the Sandy Hook incident happening I think a couple days later, but just prior to that a mall that my family and I have gone to had an active-shooter last year here in Oregon. So I try to avoid the malls/stores in general around this time of year.

It looks like Amazon is having a lightning deal on a Maker Bot replicator 2x at 9am PST: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GPWED14/ I've never seen a 3D printer on a Black Friday deal before.

Yeah the WinRT tablet is only as useful as the Windows CE netbooks, but those were $30.

Didja have a bad, tiring day, running frantically around to BF sales and getting nowhere? Not compared to this poor guy! Watch to the end, it just keeps getting better. Keep your eye on the large circular pit. Must be a giant magnet in there causing all the crashing. :)
